National AIDS Memorial Grove
This tree grove in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park
is tribute to those who have died as a result of
acquired immune deficiency symdrome (AIDS), those
who are living with AIDS, and loved ones, caregivers,
and others whose lives have been touched by AIDS.
The National AIDS Memorial Grove was designated by
U.S. Public Law 104-333 on November 12, 1996.
Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial
United States national memorial site recognizing those
who died in the Port Chicago disaster in 1944.
That event was an explosion that occurred when ships
were being loaded with ammunition and bombs killed
320 naval personnel and civilians.
The memorial was designated by U.S. Public Law 102-562
on October 28, 1992 and the site was
dedicated in 1994. It is located at the Concord Naval Weapons Station
near the city of Concord in Northern California.
