The entire middle fork of the Feather River, beginning at
the confluence of its tributary streams - approximately one kilometer
south of Beckwourth - was declared a United States
National Wild an Scenic River on October 2, 1968.
32.9 miles of the river were designated "wild",
9.7 miles were designated "scenic", and 35 miles
were designated "recreational".
The Feather River is managed by the Plumas National
Forest Office of the U.S. Forest Service.

Main Feather River
Flows generally southward from Lake Oroville in the north
to a confluence with the Sacramento River in the south
at a point a few miles north of the Sacramento International
Airport.
North Fork of the Feather River
Begins near Lassen Peak in the southern region of
Lassen Volcanic National Park and flows generally southward
to Lake Oroville, a reservoir created by building the Orovile Dam.
Flows in a generally southern direction with east and west bends along the way.
It is the largest tributary of the main Feather River. It
heavily developed for hydroelectricity
with five dams developed by three hydroelectric Projects:
The Upper North Fork Feather River Project, the
Rock Creek-Cresta Hydroelectric Project, and the
Poe Hydroelectric Project.
