Lava Beds National Monument Lava Tubes
There are 19 lava tubes open to visitors
in Lava Beds National Monument. Many of
them are on Cave Loop Road. Bring a flashlight.
Mercer Caverns
System of caves located just outside of Murphys
in Calaveras County.
Mitchell Caverns Natural Preserve
Two limestone caves connected by a tunnel that are
located inside Providence Mountains State Recreation Area.
Open for tours on weekends during the summer.
Moaning Cavern
Located in California's gold country,
about two miles south of Vallecito
on Columbia Sonora Road.
Mud Caves
Caves formed by water flowing through a thick
deposit of salt. Located inside Anza Borrego Desert
State Park.
Pinnacles National Monument Caves
There are two caves inside the boundaries of Pinnacles
National Monument, Bear Gulch Cave and Balconies Cave.
Pluto's Cave
Partially collapsed lava tube cave near Lake Shasta.
Subway Cave
Visitors can walk through this lava tub cave
on a 1/3 mile long trail. Usually open
from May through October. Bring a flashlight.
Sunny Jim Cavern
Man-made tunnel that can be accessed by
descending down 145 steps.
