Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, 600,000 acres, is the largest state park in the U.S. Riverside was the first place to use a tree-lined divided avenue in the U.S. The world's first oil tanker burnt and sank in Ventura in 1887 at the end of the Ventura Pier. California's coastline is 1,264 miles long and has 420 public beaches. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, measuring 12 miles wide by 22 miles long, with a 72 mile long shoreline and a maximum depth of 1,645 feet.
