History of Horseback Riding on Catalina Island
Horses were used in the 1880's for the stagecoach rides between
Avalon and Two Harbors that were
offered to Catalina island visitors by the Banning Brothers.
Cattle ranches on the island also utilized horses.
Horseback riding excursions were later offered by
William Wrigley,Jr. when he established the Catalina Stables.
Today horseback riders gather every year for multiple-day
group horseback riding experiences.

Catalina Island Saddle Club

in 1998 to preserve the equestrian tradition of Catalina Island.
The group leases land from the Catalina Island Company,
they operate a working stable on the island, and they
sponsor the Catalina Island Pony Club.
Catalina Island Pony Club

the island's branch of an international organization
that teaches children to ride and care for horses.
Catalina's pony club was established in 1978.
Los Caballeros of Catalina
Official Web site of Catalina Island's Los Caballeros organization.
The group was established in 1943 by a several Los Angeles area
horsemen. Its mission is to preserve western heritage on
Catalina Island by promoting horsemanship, respect, the spirit of
cowboy camaraderie, and love for the outdoors.

Their events include an annual "Catalina Trek" held the
third Wednesday of September and other group riding events.
Lifetime members of the group's fundraising program include
