Information about wilderness parks in Orange County, California

Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park
4,500 acre, hilly wilderness area, wildlife sanctuary, and natural open space with more than 30 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Natural features of the park include streams flowing all year, oak trees, sycamore trees, and elderberry trees. Other facilities, activities, and attractions in the park include scenic overlooks, picnic areas, and restrooms. Ranger led nature walks and programs are scheduled on a regular basis. Aliso and Wood Canyons Park is iocated at 28373 Alicia parkway in Laguna Niguel.

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
7000 acre wilderness area with forty miles of trails. Nature features incude canyons, rocky bluffs, oak trees, sycamore trees, and ridges with expansive scenic views of the ocean and surrouding area. Activities in the park include hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Regularly scheduled guided tours are available. Located at 18751 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park
8,000 acre protected wilderness preserve in the Santa Ana Mountains. Natural features include sandstone canyons, valleys, streams, oak groves, sycamore groves,and seasonal wildflowers. Activities included regularly scheduled guided nature walk and other nature programs. When the preserve was first opened to the public in April of 1974 it was known as Starr Viejo Regional Park and its name was later that year to honor Orange County supervisor who was lost at sea later that year, a few days after the supervisor's reelection. The park is located in an unincorporated county area about 6 miles northeast of Rancho Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano.
