Balboa Performing Arts Theater
In 2015 it was announced that the 87 year old Balboa Performing Arts Theater, located at 707 East Blaboa Boulevard, may be sold by the city of Newport Beach. The the3ater first opened in 1928 and it was bought by the city of Newport Beach in 1988 for $480,000. A fundraising and support organization known as the Balboa Theater Performing Arts Foundation was established to renovate the buyilding and make it a 320 seat multiple use theater featuring live performances, film screenings, and arts education programs. and it shut down in 1992. in 2015 it was estimated that repairing and renovating the theater would cost about 5.8 million, so manycity council members favored selling it.
