About Preston Castle
1890 building that was formerly one of the oldest reform schools in
the United States. First opened in 1894 when several youths
under the guardianship of the state were transferred from
San Quentin State Prison. The new facility was known as the
Preston Youth Correctional Facility. The facility officially
closed on June 2, 2011, and today the facility is open for public tours.
Designated United States National Historic Place #75000422 on July 30, 1975.
Also designated California State Historical Landmark #867.
Located at 900 Palm Drive in Ione.
