Hotel on the grounds a 1926 Hopi pueblo style property once owned by western novalist Zane Grey.
Situated on a bluff above Avalon Bay on casino side of the harbor.
The hotel had 16 rooms that were each named after one of Zane Grey's books.
The Zane Grey Hotel hotel was sold in 2013 and it closed in the Fall of that year.
The hotel's facilities and amenities included a swimming pool, ocean and town views,
a limited continental breakfast, and free taxi service form the
Avalon Harbor boat dock.

STATUS OF THE ZANE GRAY PROPERTY: The new owners were investors who began
extensive renovations and development in November of 2013
that would take at least a year to complete. Not sure if the property
will still be a hotel after the renovations and development are complete.

The sprawling Hopi Indian-style pueblo is the former home of American novelist
Zane Grey (1872-1939), who wrote more than 100 books in his lifetime. While
the author is best known for his Westerns, he also wrote baseball stories was
an avid fisherman, & wrote many books on the subject of sport fishing.
You too can enjoy Catalina Island as Zane Grey had.
ZANE GREY HISTORY ONTHE HOTEL'S FORMER WEB SITE:
Zane Grey spent most of his later life in Avalon writing and fishing until his death
in 1939 at age 67. At his death many of his manuscripts remained unpublished,so his
family has perpetuated his memory by editing and publishing them. Over 100 films
were made based on his novels. In 1924, a film crew came to Catalina Island to
do a movie version of one of Grey's books, The Vanishing American. They brought
14 head of American bison for the filming. When the movie wrapped, the crew left
the buffalo behind. Today, a herd of about 150 buffalo roam freely in Catalina
