Buffalo on Catalina Island
Information about Buffalo
on Catalina Island in Southern California.
NAME: Buffalo Herd of Catalina Island
Fourteen buffalo were brought to Catalina in 1924 for the filming of Western movie "The Vanishing American". Unfortunately none of the scenes featuring the buffalo made it into the final cut of the final cut of the film.
After filming was comleted, and at least partially for financial reasons, the film company did not remove the buffalo herd from the island. Today Catalina's buffalo herd has about 150 animals. Resources
