Introduction to the Airport in the Sky
Privately owned, public use, general aviation airport located about ten miles
from the harbor city of Avalon and about thirteen miles from the Catalina Isthmus
Village of Two Harbors. Situated about 1,600 feet above sea level at
one of the highest points on Catalina Island. Home of the DC-3 Grill and Gifts,
a cafe and gift shop. The cafe specializes in Buffalo burgers, other sandwiches,
and cookies. The airport also has a nature center. The Skyline Drive tour
that begins at Avalon stops for about 30 minutes at this airport and cafe.
History of the Airport in the Sky
The Wrigley family commissioned the airport and it first opened in 1946.
DC3 Restaurant at the Catalina Airport
Restaurant located about 1600 feet above sea level at
the Catalina Airport. The restaurant is most well-known
for its Buffalo Burgers (aka Bison Burgers) but it also
serves other breakfast and lunch dishes seven days a week.
