1908
The green Pleasure Pier was built

1915
A fire destroyed about half of the city of Avalon. after the fire, the Banning Brothers sold the Catalina Island Company.

1919
William Wrigley, Jr. - of the Wrigley Chewing Gum Company - purchased a controlling interest in Catalina Island.

In the early 1900s movie stars and other celebrities frequently visited Catalina Island to relax and escape from their fans. Charlie Chaplin, Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, and John Wayne frequently came there to fish.
