State Beaches in Alameda County
Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach
Beach on Alameda Island on the eastern shore of the San Francisco Bay.
Features include 2.5 miles of beach bordered by grassy areas and
picnic areas. Also has a bicycle trail, the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctury,
and the Crab Cove Visitor Center. Popular site for windsurfing. Other
activities include boating, bicycling, hiking, nature viewing,
picnics, and swimming.
Named in honor of State Assemblyman Robert W. Crown who campaigned
to have the beach protected as a public parkland.
Located at Eighth Street and Otis Drive in Alameda.
State Parks in Alameda County
McLaughlin Eastshore State Park
Park with tideland and upland areas along 8.5 miles of shoreline
on the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay. The park extends
from the city of Richmond in the north to Emeryville and Oakland
in the south. Recreational activities in the park include
boating, fishing, hiking, bicycling, nature viewing, swimming,
and windsurfing. Located in both Alameda County and Contra County.
State Recreational Areas in Alameda County
Bethany Reservoir State Recreation Area
This park is at the northern terminus of the California Aquaduct.
Popular for water oriented recreation such as boating, fishing and windsurfing.
Has hiking trails and a bicycle trail that is part of the California Aquaduct Bikeway.
Also has many windmills.
Located about 8 miles northeast of Livermore, about 6 miles west of
the community of Mountain House, and about seven miles off
Interstate Highway 580 at the Grant Road Exit.
Lake Del Valle State Recreation Area
Park on the South Bay Aquaduct featuring Lake Del Valle and the Del Valle Dam.
Activities include boating, camping fishing, picnics, swimming, windsurfing, hiking,
bicycling, horseback riding.
Located in Arroya del Valle, on Del Valle Road, about five miles south of Livermore,
a few miles south of Interstate Highway 580.
Off-Road State Recreational Areas in Alameda County
Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area
Off-road vehicle park with more then 1,300 acres of riding area.
Terrain includes rolling hills, dry rocky washes, and steep
rugged canyons. Has areas suitable for all levels of off-road drivers.
Tracks include a motocross track, combined ATV and motorcycle track,
track for children riding motorcycles and ATVs with small engines
up to 70cc displacement, and a beginners track for motorcycles and
ATVs with small engines up to 110cc displacement.
Located in the hills of eastern Alameda County and western San Joaquin County.
